Meet the Artistic Director

Mona Störling-Enna was born and raised in Kokkola, Finland surrounded by the Nordic forests and the Northern Lights. She grew up a bike ride from the Baltic Sea and a short drive to the Arctic Circle submersed in God’s tremendous creation. Her father, a painter, began to teach her how to draw and paint as soon as she could hold a pencil. Her mother owned her own business and always told her, “women should have their own money”. Dance became her passion in her teen years and she never looked back.

Mona studied ballet, many forms of modern and dabbled in Corporeal Mime resulting in endless access to creating a movement vocabulary unique to each piece, each story. She loves to create works of beauty and tell new stories that speak to new generations. Störling’s motto, The beauty of dance. The power of story. says so much about her inspiration. She considers herself fortunate to live in Kansas City and been able to craft new ballets and repertoire for over 25 years bringing inspiration to thousands from every walk of life, students to leaders, children to seniors, artists to accountants. Mona is also fascinated by creating an environment where dancers can thrive. In an industry compromised of 80% women, why not consider the design of a woman when crafting their work and artistic environment? It is an honor for her to get to work with such incredible talent and she wants to see them flourish in their whole lives.

The dancers in Störling are the soul of the work and have shaped the artistic footprint of this company bringing to life new stories and characters that audience returns year after year to rediscover. Störling Dance Theater is not just Mona’s unique artistic voice, but the work of some the richest and most versatile dance artists she has ever been graced to work with. They have grown up in the studio and on the stage as artists and friends.
